What is CA Foundation Exam ?
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the national professional accounting body that was established on July 1, 1949 to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. ICAI serves as the sole accounting as well as regulatory body of the profession in India. In order to become a CA, aspirants have to initially breeze through the first level of the Chartered Accountancy Examination. CA Foundation is the national level examination conducted by ICAI as entry-level exam for Chartered Accountancy. It is held twice a year, once in May then once in November.
Exam Pattern of CA Foundation
- Total Marks: 400 Marks exam with each paper accounting for 100 Marks
Four Papers (Type): Both Paper 1 & 2 will be subjective type papers but 3 & 4 will be objective papers.
Language:Candidates can choose either English or Hindi as the choice of language to appear in CA Foundation 2018 exam. However, Section B of paper 2 will compulsorily have to be given in English language.
Negative Marking:The objective papers, i.e. Paper 3 & 4, will have a negative marking of one-fourth, such that for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
Passing Criteria:Candidates will have to score a minimum of 40 marks in each paper and 50% overall (200 marks) to pass the CA Foundation exam.

How to register for CA Foundation Exam?
- Students can either go to the ICAI office for submitting the application form or register online on its official website,www.icai.org.
- A copy of the class X mark sheet and a copy of a certificate that serves as birth date proof, for example the School Leaving Certificate, are mandatory.
- The registration fee is Rs 9,000 that needs to be paid by way of Demand Draft in favour of “The Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India”, payable at Mumbai / Chennai / Kolkata / Kanpur / New Delhi.
Eligibility
Foundation Course is the entry level for Chartered Accountancy Course. once Students appear in class 12th examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto, can register for Foundation Course. in other words Students can appear in the Foundation Examination after qualifying the senior secondary (10+2) examination .Students after registration to the course complete a minimum of 4 months study period from the date of registration in order to be eligible to appear in the Foundation Examination, i.e., students registered on or before 30th June/ 31st December will be eligible to appear in November/ May examination, as the case may be.
