The (IAF) conducts various entrance examinations to recruit candidates for different branches and roles within the organization. These entrance exams select individuals for officer and non-officer positions in the IAF. Here are some of the key entrance exams for the :
National Defence Academy (NDA) Exam:
the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and is the gateway for conducts NDA candidates to join as officers. It is a joint services examination that allows candidates to join the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam:
The CDS exam is also conducted by UPSC and is for graduates who aspire to become officers in the Indian Air Force. It happens twice a year.
AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test):
AFCAT is conducted by the IAF itself. It is the main entrance exam for candidates who want to become Flying Officers, Technical Officers, or Ground Duty Officers in various branches of the Air Force.
AFCAT (2) and EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test):
AFCAT (2) is conducted for candidates interested in the Technical branch. Along with AFCAT, candidates applying for the Technical branch need to appear for the EKT, which tests their engineering knowledge.
Airman Group X & Y Exam:
This is for candidates who want to join the technical and non-technical trades in the Indian Air Force as Airmen. Group X is for technical trades, and Group Y is for non-technical trades. There are separate exams for Group X and Group Y.
AFCAT (NCC Special Entry):
This entry is for NCC (National Cadet Corps) special entry candidates who hold a valid NCC ‘C’ certificate. They can apply directly for the AFCAT.
AFCAT (Meteorology Entry):
This entry is for candidates who aspire to join the Meteorology branch of the IAF. They need to appear for AFCAT and undergo subsequent interviews.
Short Service Commission (SSC) Entry:
The IAF also conducts SSC entries for both men and women in various branches, including Flying, Technical, and Ground Duty branches. The SSC entry offers a shorter service duration compared to a permanent commission.
University Entry Scheme (UES):
UES is for students who are pursuing their engineering degrees and want to join the Indian Air Force as officers. It allows them to apply during their pre-final or final year of engineering.
Territorial Army: Indian Air Force also allows serving personnel of the Territorial Army to apply for specific branches, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
